A bus carrying a team of youth players crashed into a river after a return registration exercise on Saturday, 19th September, 2020.
The accident ocurred on the Kumasi – Offinso road in the Ashanti region.
There were 36 players on board the bus and six of the Ghanaian youth players have been confirmed dead after the fatal accident.
The cause of the accident was due to a flat tyre, which made the driver lose control of the steering wheel because be was moving very fast, so it made the bus veer off and enter into the river.
The GFA and NJC have organised a team to visit the victims of the accident at the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital in Kumasi.
The accident victims who were between the ages of 12 and 16 were transfered to the Patrick hospital with report suggesting other players who survived the accident are in critical condition.
Currently in Ghana, all contact sports, including football competitions, are under a national ban as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease, which has disrupted socio-economic activities around the world.
The GFA has, however, opened the window for player registration in anticipation of imminent lifting of the ban to allow resumption of the various national leagues.
